about alx

alx frncs (pronounced alex frances) is a Brighton based bedroom folk artist who released their first single 'i wanna' last July - featured on Amazing Radio B-List, Tring Radio Future Sounds and Signal Committee's Eclectic Picks playlist (from Freshonthenet submission), reminiscent of artists such as Julia Jacklin, Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, and Haley Heynderickx.

She started songwriting at the age of 11, school notebooks filled with lyrics and a YouTube channel filled with covers and originals. After completing a degree in Biomedical Science at Sussex University in 2021, she started playing open mics around Brighton, showcasing her original music to new audiences met with extremely warm reviews. After her first opening slot at Green Door Store back in 2022, Brighton’s music scene opened its arms with warmth and since then she’s moved from strength to strength, capturing the Brighton Folk scene with her powerful tales of self hate and doubt.

Her next single 'i cant do anything right' is ready for release at the beginning of April 2024; a gentle upbeat exploration into the inadequacies of depression and isolation during lock-down in the UK. Alx’s writings often focus on grappling with her experience of a fracturing family home, juxtaposed with unhealthy anxiety surrounding existential dread and anger throughout her life, with audiences often relating to those themes that left unsaid in their day to day.
